Virginia became the first naval port in the United Estates thanks to the Railroad company that use the State for commercial purposes. Because of that there are a lot of families who are involve in the military. You can visit the Nautica (naval museum) and see the battleship Winsconsin, used in several occasions by the USA Army (WWII, Korean War, Cold War and Persian Gulf War). Their marines nicknamed it “Wisky”, because part of the ship bows are from two different cities; The nose from Winsconsin and the back from Kentucky.
The city of Norfolk, or as locals will call “Norfik”, is know as the Mermaid city. You can find statues all over the place, including in Virginia Beach (the Beach).
Local beer is O’connors, Oysters and Clams are very good all the year but you can also visit restaurants as “Chow” to try dishes with pork. Virginia loves their brunches, other restaurants as “Charlie”, is frequent by movie stars, or you can always find a line in “Handsome Biscuits”, or play some pool and karaoke in places such as Cogan’s Pizza.
A must walk though the residencial historic houses in “The Hague” neighborhood, notice there is a peculiar tree that you can find in any street, the Grape Myrtle. Across you can find the base of PEAT, protecting endangered animals together.
Don’t forget to visit the Busch Gardens, a theme park with roller-coasters , each one corresponds to an European country. The best time to go is in special festivities such as Halloween or Christmas and you can see all the holiday decorations.
